How do you turn paper into food?

Hali Williams creates multidisciplinary works, currently practicing on Potawatomi land in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Most of their artwork is created in the historic Edison neighborhood. They obtained a bachelor’s degree in Gender and Women’s Studies as well as Studio Art from Western Michigan University in 2020. They specialize in printmaking and and handmade paper.

Through traditional practices like foraging, papermaking, and printing, Hali developed an alternative book arts practice that is process-oriented and focused on storytelling, autobiographical, and ecological elements. They explore non-linear timelines, reciprocity, and liminality in their work. Creating allows them to voice their curiosity and queerness while celebrating community and honoring the knowledge passed down from their ancestors.
