About the Artist

How do you turn paper into food?

Hi, my name is Hali and I’m an artist currently practicing on Potawatomi land (Kalamazoo, Michigan). Most of my artwork is created in the historic Edison neighborhood. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Gender and Women’s Studies as well as Studio Art from Western Michigan University. I make ecologically focused book arts and am a printmaker, fiber artist, and a first year hand-poke tattoo artist. Through traditional practices of foraging, papermaking, and printing I am giving a voice to my inquisitiveness while celebrating my community and the knowledge that my ancestors gave me. I try to show appreciation for the process of creating through handmade work.
